NU-GEL™ Hydrogel with Alginate
Overview
Rehydration for Easy Debridement
NU-GEL™ Hydrogel is designed to create a moist healing environment for the management of chronic wounds throughout all stages of healing including :
- Dry necrotic wounds
- Soft, sloughy wounds
- Granulating/ epithelialising wounds
NU-GEL™ Hydrogel gently and effectively rehydrates necrotic and sloughy wounds and provides a moist wound healing environment for granulating and epithelialising wounds. The alginate increases the absorption of NU-GEL™ Hydrogel.
Rehydration & Absorption
1. NU-GEL™ Hydrogel
2. Wound exudate
3. Rehydrating moisture
4. Necrotic/sloughy tissue
Easier to Handle
In a trial of 65 patients, mostly with heel pressure ulcers which are hard to dress, NU-GEL™ Hydrogel was significantly easier to direct and easier to squeeze from the pack with just one hand than a leading hydrogel.79
Indications
Where to use NU-GEL™ Hydrogel
NU-GEL™ Hydrogel is designed to create a moist healing environment for the management of chronic wounds throughout all stages of healing:
- Dry necrotic wounds
- Soft, sloughy wounds
- Granulating/epithelialising wounds
NU-GEL™ Hydrogel is a transparent hydro-active amorphous gel containing sodium alginate. The hydrogel creates a moist wound healing environment which assists with natural autolytic debridement whilst the alginate component enhances its absorptive capabilities. The gel can be used to soften and hydrate eschar by facilitating rehydration of the wound.
How to use
Preparation
1. Choose an ampoule size according to wound size:15g for a 5cm × 5cm wound; 25g for a 7cm × 7cm wound. Remove the protective label (see the reverse side of the label for handling information).
2. Carefully cleanse the wound according to local standard protocols.
Application
1. Ampoule nozzle allows precise application of gel in all wounds including deep wounds.
2. Apply NU-GEL™ Hydrogel to a thickness of at least 5mm. Dispenser is for single use only to ensure sterile application
Precautions: If wound infection develops during the course of treatment, appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be initiated. Treatment with NU-GEL™ Hydrogel may be continued under medical supervision.
Covering and Securing
Choose a type of secondary wound dressing according to the amount of exudate.
1. No exudate
Applying BIOCLUSIVE™ Transparent Dressing, positioned over the wound, holds the gel in position.
2. Exudate
Apply TIELLE™ Hydroplymer Adhesive Dressing or…
3. …apply ADAPTIC™ Non-Adhering Dressing.
Changing
Depending on the amount of wound exudate being produced, NU-GEL™ Hydrogel may be left undisturbed in the wound for up to three days. NU-GEL™ Hydrogel should be changed if leakage occurs through the secondary dressing.
Irrigate the wound according to local standard protocols to cleanse and re-apply NU-GEL™ Hydrogel and secondary dressings as appropriate.
Package insert

Indications
NU-GEL™ hydrogel is indicated for debridement and desloughing of wounds together with the management of chronic wounds throughout all stages of the healing process.
Precautions
If wound infection develops, appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be initiated. The use of NU-GEL™ hydrogel may be continued under medical supervision. NU-GEL™ Hydrogel contains propylene glycol which might cause irritation or sensitisation in a small number of patients; if such reactions are noted, use of NU-GEL™ Hydrogel should be discontinued.

- Apply NU-GEL™ hydrogel to the whole wound to a depth of at least 5mm.
- Cover with a suitable secondary dressing appropriate to the level of exudate.
- Any unused gel should be discarded.
Dressing Change and Removal
- Irrigate the wound with sterile saline to cleanse wound site. Depending upon the amount of wound exudate NU-GEL™ hydrogel may be left undisturbed in the wound for up to 3 days. NU-GEL™ hydrogel should be changed if leakage occurs through the secondary dressing.
